Jaguars CB Darious Williams hopes to be a GM after his playing career

Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Darious Williams still has plenty of football left in him, but it doesn’t hurt to prepare for the future.

Williams, who turns 30 in March, is participating in the NCAA and NFL Coaches Academy that’s being held this week in Indianapolis. The event seeks to connect college coaches and develop leadership skills, but Williams is eying a different profession.

In a video posted by the NCAA, Williams says he’s hoping that a general manager position is in his future:

“I want to be a GM, one because I feel like I just know talent, in general,” Williams said in the video. “And knowing talent, I know a lot of kids who are overlooked. I was undrafted. Could I always see myself playing in the NFL? Yes, absolutely. But I’ve also had good, talented teammates and friends that I grew up with who obviously didn’t get that shot because they were overlooked.

“Even if you look at Patrick Mahomes. He was a two-star, three-star athlete and now he’s in the greatest position to be one of the greatest players ever. So it’s stuff like that and just being able to take risks on players like that.”

Williams was All-Conference USA in his final season with the UAB Blazers, but joined the Baltimore Ravens as an undrafted free agent in 2018. After he was waived by the Ravens during his rookie season, Williams landed with the Los Angeles Rams and started 26 games in three and a half seasons with the team.

The Jaguars signed Williams during the 2022 offseason to a three-year, $30 million deal with the intent of having the new addition play in the slot. He was eventually moved outside late in the season and thrived down the stretch.

In the last five games of the regular season, Williams was credited by Pro Football Focus with allowing six receptions on 19 targets for just 46 yards.
