The Jacksonville Jaguars might be without one of their first-round draft picks for the Week 1 regular season opener against the Houston Texans — running back Travis Etienne reportedly suffered a Lisfranc injury. It should be determined today how long he’ll miss.

So… what exactly is a Lisfranc injury?

According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Lisfranc joint complex is a meeting in the arch of the foot of bones and ligaments, particularly the Lisfranc ligament, a possible injury to the region of the foot can be either a fracture, sprain or ligament tear.

The severity of Lisfranc injuries can be completely different from case to case, but they have sidelined Jaguars players for the rest of the season, with Maurice Jones-Drew suffering a Lisfranc injury in Week 6 of the 2012 NFL season and not playing another down until being put on injured reserve at the end of the year.
