When the Jacksonville Jaguars added three extra Day 3 picks by trading down twice in the first round, it seemed obvious that the team would use that extra ammo to maneuver in the second and/or third rounds.

Instead, the only move made by the Jaguars on Friday was to slide down again and add another fifth-round pick. Now the Jaguars have a stockpile of 10 selections in the last day of the 2023 NFL draft.

On Friday night, shortly after the third round ended, Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said the team attempted to move up and couldn’t find any takers.

“That’s why we’re late coming in here. We tried to get back into the third round again. It didn’t work,” Baalke told reporters.

“It’s one thing to say you want to move. It’s another thing to have a partner to move. Sometimes you make the calls, you make a lot of calls, like we did to try to get back into round three, and it just didn’t work. That’s part of this game. It’s frustrating at times, but it’s reality. We got 10 [picks] and we’ll see, put them to use the best way we can in the morning.”

For now, the Jaguars are set to pick three times in the fourth round, but none of those selections (Nos. 121, 127, and 130 overall) are in the top half of the round.

It’d seem the Jaguars don’t plan on waiting around to make 10 picks on Saturday so long as they can find a trade partner this time around.
