The NFL’s “My Cause, My Cleats” initiative is set to take place in Week 13, and one of the New York Jets‘ best defenders is partnering with a well-known non-profit sports organization.

Edge rusher Jermaine Johnson, a breakout player for the team this season, is joining forces with Good Sports for his cleats for “My Cause, My Cleats,” when the Jets take on the Atlanta Falcons.

Good Sports, which is based in Boston, Massachusetts, is a national non-profit dedicated to helping drive equitable access to youth sports and physical activity.

The non-profit supports these children in high-need communities by working directly with the sporting goods industry to obtain a variety of athletic gear, apparel, and footwear. Good Sports then donates it all back to kids in need.

Starting in 2003 with a 500 basketball donation in the Boston area, Good Sports has donated $100 million in sports gear donations to youth-serving programs nationwide. They have impacted over 9.5 million kids and donated over $100M in sports equipment, apparel, and footwear.

Good Sports is partnered with large corporations, such as Adidas and New Balance, and teams like the Atlanta Falcons and New York Rangers.

This yearly initiative for the NFL is always an amazing way for players to highlight the causes close to them. Each player comes from individual circumstances and experiences, and allowing their passion for specific causes to shine through is something that should be celebrated.

Jermaine Johnson’s cause is no different. By partnering with Good Sports, the breakout defender can highlight a fantastic cause and showcase it to the rest of the wider public. Ultimately, it is what the essence of “My Cause, My Cleats” should be.
