Joe Douglas and the New York Jets took a measured approach to free agency. They waited to see how the positional markets developed and by being in a good but not great salary cap situation, Douglas was mindful of what type of contracts he handed out.

For a team where the window to win is right now, perhaps from the outside, fans would have preferred a more aggressive approach. However, at least on paper, one can’t really argue with Douglas’ results so far.

Within the first few days of the free agency period officially opening, Douglas reconstructed the Jets’ starting offensive line, giving them additional options in how they go about utilizing that 10th overall pick. On top of that, the Jets bolstered their depth along the interior defensive line, solidified their special teams unit by re-signing Thomas Morstead and Greg Zuerlein, along with re-signing Chuck Clark at safety and adding Tyrod Taylor to be Aaron Rodgers’ backup, among other moves.

Of course, like every other team, there are still positional needs to address. Free agency shouldn’t stop Douglas from continuing to add to the offensive line. A second wide receiver to pair with Garrett Wilson is still a pressing need, not to mention that depth at safety and edge rusher should still be on Douglas’ radar as well.

So with the initial wave of free agent signings behind us, here is who the Jets are taking at 10th overall in some recent mock drafts.
