It’s been over a year since the Carolina Panthers parted ways with Joe Brady. Yet, the two sides may still be intertwined.

As first reported by NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport on Sunday, the New York Jets have requested permission to speak with Brady for their offensive coordinator position. The 33-year-old is currently the quarterbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills.

But, as Rapoport also notes, Brady may not exactly jump at the opportunity. Given his apparent admiration for Buffalo and the current interest surrounding their offensive play caller, he could have an even greater opportunity right where he is.

And that’s where the Panthers potentially come in.

Carolina, in their search for a new head coach, interviewed Ken Dorsey on Saturday. Dorsey, of course, is currently the Bills offensive coordinator.

With the early favorite for the Panthers’ vacancy Ben Johnson remaining in Detroit and another presumed favorite Sean Payton costing a whole pretty penny, Dorsey could be a very real possibility alongside Steve Wilks and Shane Steichen. And if Carolina does hire Dorsey, it would leave an open path to Buffalo’s offensive coordinator job for Brady.

So even though they fired Brady last season, the Panthers may still be helping Brady find work—even if they’re not directly involved this time.
