The Atlanta Falcons are releasing veteran tight end Jonnu Smith, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday afternoon. Smith, 28, is coming off a career-best season in which he recorded 50 catches for 582 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
According to Over The Cap’s projections, releasing Smith will free up $6.5 million in salary cap space for 2024 while incurring a penalty of $2.5 million. This would bring Atlanta’s salary cap total to around $38 million with the new league year set to begin on March 13.
