The Houston Texans had trouble against the Dallas Cowboys’ blitz in their second preseason game.

Texans quarterbacks were only sacked once, but they faced pressure all night.

According to center Justin Britt, the reason why they weren’t able to handle the Cowboys’ blitz isn’t an issue that will persist into the regular season.

“It’s hard in the preseason,” Britt said. “We’re trying to get better as a team, and we’re practicing against ourselves and trying to learn our own schemes. Then we go to a game that we didn’t really get the game plan for to the extent we want. So, they threw out a blitz we haven’t seen all camp and we didn’t really talk about, and it was a new look for me and [quarterback] Tyrod (Taylor), and we’re grateful it happened because we’ve learned from it. It’s only going to continue to help us grow and move forward. They didn’t do anything crazy, but what they did, they did well.”

Britt played 13 snaps in the game at center before his evening was done to give Justin McCray, Ryan McCollum, and Drake Jackson a shot at the position.

“It’s my first year in this offense with this blocking scheme and how they do things, so it’s just one of those reps in games that you just get to kind of learn from,” said Britt. “It’s not that they did anything too exotic, but they did enough to make us have to take a step back and re-evaluate the best way to do it, which is going to help us in the future.”

The Texans will get another chance to work together as a cohesive blocking unit against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday night at NRG Stadium for the preseason finale.
