Shortly after the conclusion of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl Champions Parade, gunshots were fired around Union Station, as confirmed by the Kansas City Police Department.
Police said that the shots came from west of Union Station near the garage — and that multiple parade-goers were struck. Parade-goers could be seen running away from Union Station on the official broadcast on KSHB41.
During a 5:20 p.m. press conference, KCPD police Chief Stacey Graves said that at least one victim is deceased, and the number of those wounded by gunshots has increased to 22. Three people have been detained in connection to the incident.
Graves has also shared that all Chiefs players, coaches and staff were accounted for and are safe.
In particular, Children’s Mercy Hospital informed media outlets it is treating 12 patients, 11 of whom are children. Nine of the patients have gunshot wounds. Senior vice president Stephanie Meyer later noted that the 11 children (ages 5 to 16) with gunshot wounds are anticipated to make a full recovery.
Earlier in the day, police requested that witnesses of the shooting go to the southwest corner of Pershing and Main. The Child Unification station is inside the main entrance of Union Station. Police said that several children are in need of reunification with their parents.
We’ll continue to update this post as more information becomes available.

The Chiefs left the parade in busses, and in shock. I’m told players were UNBELIEVABLE calming panicked kids down. Blaine Gabbert, Tre Smith, Austin Reiter, Chris Oladukun all rallied.
Smith went to one upset kid, gave him the WWE title belt and sat with him til he calmed down.
