The very last set of projections from one of the game’s top draft analysts might include a dream scenario for the Carolina Panthers.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid just churned out a seven-round mock for the 2024 NFL draft—his final such venture ahead of this week’s announcing of names. To kick off the second round, Reid has the Panthers grabbing University of Oregon center Jackson Powers-Johnson:

Carolina spent big on its offensive this offseason, signing guards Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis, but there’s still room for improvement. Guard Austin Corbett is entering the final year of his contract, so Powers-Johnson would not only be competition but also a potential long-term solution to solidify the Panthers’ interior front. JPJ has strong hands and can anchor against pass-rushers.

Powers-Johnson, a 2023 unanimous All-American, is viewed by many as a first-round talent. So even if he is a temporary backup for Austin Corbett in 2024, the nasty 6-foot-3, 328-pound hog molly would be quite the steal at No. 33.

Then, at No. 39, comes University of South Carolina wideout Xavier Legette—who would help address another important area of need for the Carolina offense. Reid writes:

Legette’s physicality and explosiveness after the catch would give quarterback Bryce Young a serious playmaker. Legette caught 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns last season, and the Panthers still need receiver help, even after trading for Diontae Johnson.

Legette, in an interview with Texans Wire’s John Crumpler, revealed that the Panthers told him he’ll be their pick at No. 33 if he’s available. The organization has sent out quite a few feelers on the Mullins, S.C. native this offseason—including establishing a notably heavy presence at his pro day.

Reid finishes his Panthers haul off with pass rusher Jonah Elliss, receiver Javon Baker, tight end Jared Wiley, cornerback Tykee Smith and guard Jarrett Kingston.
