On this week’s podcast we discuss the over-aggressiveness of Dan Campbell, and everything else wrong with this Lions team right now.

For the third time in four weeks, the Detroit Lions found themselves down three scores against an opponent that looked like the superior team for almost all four quarters of the game. Again, though, the Lions fought back against the Chicago Bears and made things somewhat interesting late in the game.

That’s when a bold decision by head coach Dan Campbell took center stage. Faced with a fourth-and-inches from the Bears’ 8-yard line down 10 points, Campbell chose to pass on a chip-shot field goal to make it a one-score game with four minutes left for an opportunity to get a first down and possibly score a touchdown. The Lions failed and the game was over then and there.

On this week’s PODcast, we discuss the merits of that decision—and an earlier one made by Campbell—but at the same time, we don’t let that storyline overshadow the main problems with this team right now. The offense is showing a tremendous lack of consistency, the defense is just really, really bad, and it has left the coaching staff in a tough position where they have to make controversial choices like Campbell made just to give this team a shot.

Other topics of discussion include:

  • Is Jamaal Williams playing better than D’Andre Swift right now?
  • Patience is running thin with Jared Goff
  • Glimmers of hope from Quintez Cephus, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Kalif Raymond
  • Hard to see hope from an injury-riddled defense right now

You can check out the PODcast in the player below.

We also recorded a post-game show right after the game. It’s a much shorter version of the PODcast (25 minutes) if you can’t spare an hour. You can listen to that here.
