With the NFL scouting combine coming up in Indianapolis, Cincinnati Bengals senior defensive assistant Mark Duffner will be attending his 28th straight, now 50 years into his coaching career.

Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com talked with Duffner about his memories of all of the combines he has been to over the years. He said the interview process is a very important part of the combine for him, and while there have been too many interviews he’s been a part of to remember some of the best, he does remember a few recently who impressed him.

Here’s some of what Duffner said to Hobson: “You want to take advantage of every opportunity you can. Cam Sample, in particular (in 2021), was exceptional in the interview process. Joseph (Ossai) was good. Myles (Murphy) was good. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be here.”

Duffner said that since the interview isn’t even close to the end of the process of deciding if they want to draft a player, it makes it tough to recall any from a while ago, but Sample, Ossai and Murphy made enough of an impression in their combine interviews that he could recall they did well.

Now, Duffner will get another year of interviews and certainly knows what he’s looking for at No. 28.
