Which players are scratches this week?

Here we are! Just over an hour away from the kickoff of the Los Angeles Chargers 2021 Season opening Kick Off!!!!

Along with that comes the announcement of which players from the Chargers’ roster will be inactive this week.

With Easton Stick being QB 3 this is no real surprise. Amen Ogbongbemiga and Trey Marshall are still hurt which makes both of their inactive status expected as neither are “healthy” scratches.

That brings us to Joshua Kelley. A lot of us were predicting the Chargers might actually decide to let Kelley or Justin Jackson go this offseason. With the team deciding to keep both, and Kelley not being featured as a returner, it isn’t all that surprising to see him inactive this week but at the same time you have to wonder whether his roster spot might be better used by someone else at another position.
What this also says however, is that the team feels VERY comfortable with Austin Ekeler’s health today. He sat out practice a few times this week and there were concerns he might not be able to play, however with the team deciding to make Kelley a healthy scratch, one could pretty comfortably make the assumption the team feels that Ekeler is at, or very close to, 100%.

The last name on the list is Tre’ McKitty. The TE group is in a similar position to the RB group, with there being 4 names on the list. Stephen Anderson is still ahead of the rookie 3rd round pick in basically every aspect of the game (receiving, blocking, and special teams). It’s not the best outcome when a 3rd round pick winds up being your 4th TE on the depth chart and is a healthy scratch on gameday, but Tom Telesco has been known to grab “projects” in the 3rd round, so he is likely not losing any sleep over this development.
