The Chicago Bears are gearing up for a Thursday Night Football showdown against the Carolina Panthers, where there’s still a big question mark about who will be starting at quarterback.

Starter Justin Fields has missed the past three games as he deals with a right thumb injury, and he’s considered “day-to-day.” While Fields returned to practice last week, he’s been listed as a limited participant. And the short turnaround against the Panthers doesn’t necessarily make it easier for him to return.

So there’s a good chance we could see rookie Tyson Bagent making his fourth consecutive NFL start when Chicago hosts Carolina.

But for offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, the uncertainty at quarterback isn’t necessarily altering his gameplan for the Panthers.

“We felt like we kind of put it all out there for our guys and being able to take this thing in a few different directions and the guys feel really comfortable in doing that,” Getsy said. “So, I don’t think from everybody else’s perspective in that room other than the two quarterbacks, it’s not going to feel like it’s a different gameplan by any means if we go one direction or the other.”

That answer probably isn’t going to sit well with Bears fans, who know all too well that Getsy has shown a penchant for forcing players to fit his scheme rather than vice versa.

Fields and Bagent are two completely different quarterbacks, and they require separate gameplans. While Bagent is able to execute a short, quick passing game more efficiently, Fields brings athleticism and deep-ball accuracy to the table that allows him to stretch the field vertically.

Perhaps Getsy already knows who’s going to be starting on Thursday night (and maybe it’s Bagent, if the team doesn’t want to rush Fields back). But, more than likely, it’s just the same old, same old with Getsy.
