She will represent Colombia this summer in the 400-meter hurdles.

Back during minicamp, Detroit Lions quarterback David Blough told the media that his wife, Melissa Gonzalez was on the verge of qualifying for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (obviously postponed to 2021 due to COVID-19).

“We’re really excited about this summer could look like for her,” Blough said. “These next few weeks will be some heavy training load, then yeah, hopefully I’ll be staying up ‘till 2 a.m. one night in training camp watching her in Japan.”

On Thursday night, via the Lions’ PR Twitter account, it was revealed that Gonzalez had, indeed, qualified for the 400-meter hurdles event representing her home country Colombia. Per the Lions, she actually holds the national record for the race with a time of 55.68 seconds.

“I wish you all could see the day to day that went into this,” Blough tweeted Thursday night. “In 2017, Melissa said, ‘I know I belong at the highest level, I’m going to run through Tokyo 2020 and just see what happens.’ Here she is in 2021 after a few crazy years. Stronger. Faster. Now, an Olympian!”

Congratulations to Gonzalez, and good luck in Tokyo in just a couple of weeks!
