The Miami Dolphins closed their 2021 minicamp on Thursday, heading into a month of off time before returning to South Florida for training camp in late July. Except, for the first time since 1993, the Dolphins will not be returning to the team’s training facilities on the campus of Nova Southeastern University in Davie. With the closure of minicamp, the Dolphins have begun moving all operations to the team’s new facilities adjacent to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens.

A new, state-of-the-art facility, the Dolphins used Thursday’s minicamp agenda as a chance to take a tour of the new site.

Of course, the biggest focal point on Thursday was the slide inside the facility:

And, what good would showing off the slide be if people did not get a chance to use it. Dolphins guard Durval Queiroz Neto (via Will Manso) caught Dolphins owner Stephen Ross taking a trip down the feature:

While the new facility was the focus and gives the Dolphins a cutting edge place to not only practice and hold training camp, but consolidate all the football and business operations of the club in one place, it also ends an era at Nova Southeastern University. Opening in 1993, the site was home to Dan Marino and Don Shula. Jimmy Johnson, Jason Taylor, and Zach Thomas worked there. The Nick Saban Memorial Bubble is there. Joe Philbin walking the practice and picking up trash. The really uncomfortable trade of Vontae Davis on Hard Knocks was there. There is a lot of history of the Dolphins on the Nova campus.

So, as the team moves to Miami Gardens and into a new site, capable of holding the entire organization, we also should remember to say goodbye to Nova Southeastern University and Davie. Thanks for 28 years of being the team’s home.
