We’re trucking on through July, the preseason is just around the corner

Happy Monday, everyone!

I hope all of you had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. I had a great time, although it was a bit busier than I’d prefer. I didn’t get nearly enough fishing done, but then again, I don’t think it’s possible to ever get ENOUGH fishing done. I went to a demolition derby on Sunday. It’s been a while since I’ve been to one, and I have to admit, I had a good time. I’m temporarily tempted to put a derby car together, because that looks like a lot of fun. This temptation will pass, probably by this afternoon, but man, that does look like fun.

Wow, July is flying by far too quickly. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ready for the preseason to get here so we can see some real football again, but I’m not ready to let go of summer yet. Oh well, at least it won’t be long until the Vikings can get back on the field. I’m looking forward to seeing the revamped defense. I think Zimmer is still majorly p***ed about last season, and I have a feeling that once he can get these new pieces all “in sync”, this defense has a chance to be a formidable unit. We’ll find out soon!

Around the DN since our last open thread:

From Chris, PFF’s list of the top 32 interior linemen contains three Vikings.

Other Vikings/NFL news and random oddities and annoyances:

Ted Ginn has announced his retirement from the NFL after 14 seasons, per NFL.com.

No new drama to announce in the latest episode of The Real Red-Headed Step Children of Green Bay. NFL.com reports that according to Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy, ‘There’s nothing new to update’ regarding A-a-ron Rodgers. I don’t get why there’s any confusion. Roders says he’s going to decide what to do in a couple weeks. I call BS. Look, he’s gonna play. He’ll play a game for a few months for the paltry sum of $35 million. HIs only other option is to sit out the entire year. I don’t see a 37 year-old QB making that stupid decision. What would the reason be? He’s mad that they didn’t draft the person he wanted them to draft? Good grief.

Richard Sherman’s arrest and all the details were released to the public on the day after it happened. I’m interested to hear your opinion on this. I’ll reserve my opinion for the comments section so as not to influence the poll.

Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:

-No discussion of politics or religion
-No feeding of the trolls-Leave the gender hatred at the door
-Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
-Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags
-No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
-If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
-While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.

With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Welcome aboard! Belly up & tie one one, don’t forget to tip the cows, and try the head cheese.
