The Indianapolis Colts are making the most of the early parts of free agency with the signing of Joe Flacco, but they weren’t the only team who had an interest in signing the veteran quarterback. The Eagles and Saints were also interested in a potential hook-up with Flacco.
If nothing else, 2023 reminded the entire league that it pays to have a good backup. With Gardener Minshew off to Las Vegas, the Colts needed a backup quarterback to fill that role and provide relief if Anthony Richardson is not ready by the start of the season.
They snagged 2023 Comeback Player of the Year and 16-year veteran Joe Flacco. Per Rob Maaddi of the AP, Flacco decided to join Indy on a one-year deal but had interest from the Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints as well.
It makes a ton of sense that Philly and New Orleans were looking at Flacco as a backup option.
The Saints no longer have Jameis Winston after he jet-setted to Cleveland, and the Eagles only have Tanner McKee sitting behind Jalen Hurts.
Adding Flacco to either team would have been a major boost.
Before agreeing to a deal with the #Colts, Joe Flacco had an offer from the #Eagles and the #Saints were also interested in the veteran QB and 2023 AP Comeback Player of the Year.
