Stephon Gilmore underwent surgery to repair a partially torn quad in December.

Eight New England Patriots will begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, including cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

The 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year was among those to report to Gillette Stadium on Thursday, according to Field Yates of ESPN, after seeing his 2020 season end on injured reserve due to a partially torn quad and not attending mandatory minicamp in June.

Gilmore, who turns 31 in September, is currently scheduled for a base salary of $7 million in the final year of his five-year, $65 million contract as a result of a $4.5 million advance last fall.

Quarterback Jarrett Stidham, wide receiver Devin Smith, tight end Dalton Keene, defensive tackle Byron Cowart, linebackers Chase Winovich and Terez Hall, as well as core special-teamer Brandon King have also been placed on the active PUP list, per the transaction wire.

Each of whom is eligible to come off the list and begin practicing at any time.

On Wednesday, the Patriots placed three rookies in running back Rhamondre Stevenson, linebacker Cameron McGrone and safety Joshuah Bledsoe on the non-football injury list.

The remainder of New England’s veterans are set to report on July 27. The first session of training camp follows on July 28.
