Ex-Browns linebacker Willie Harvey Jr. worked out for New England on Thursday.

The New England Patriots worked out two linebackers prior to Thursday’s preseason opener at Gillette Stadium. One has since returned to the facility.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots had Willie Harvey Jr. in for a visit on Saturday, though no signing has been announced.

Harvey, 25, entered the league with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2019. The 5-foot-11, 230-pound Iowa State product began his rookie season on the practice squad before being elevated to the 53-man roster midway through September. Harvey finished the campaign on injured reserve after appearing in a pair of games to record 17 snaps on special teams and his first career tackle.

The Browns later waived Harvey, a three-time All-Big 12 honorable mention who started 42 games with the Cyclones, at the league’s roster deadline in 2020.

NFL clubs must reduce from 90 to 85 active players by 4 p.m. ET Tuesday.
