New Orleans Saints Fantasy Advice – Stars, Steals, Sleepers and the Suspect

Who should you draft and who should you pass on in your fantasy football drafts?

When August hits, so does the fantasy football draft season. Drafting can be some of the most fun in all of fantasy. It can also be some of the most stressful. It is difficult to weed through the players and who is going to contribute to what team. This article will delve into some of the New Orleans Saints players going into the draft. Who should you draft? Who should you pass? These are the players that are stars, steals, sleepers and suspect going into the 2021 NFL fantasy drafts.

The Stars – Alvin Kamara

Naturally, Alvin Kamara is one of the highest draft picks in most fantasy football drafts. It is likely that Kamara will be the only Saints player in the stars category this season. Michael Thomas has had a tumultuous off-season so far or he would likely garner similar sentiments as Kamara. Kamara will go into this season as the premier talent of a new offense and leader. If the team turns into a run-heavy team behind Taysom Hill, then Kamara will likely rush the ball more than ever before. If the team deploys Jameis Winston, then field-stretching receivers could benefit Kamara’s ability to work quick routes. Kamara is likely to be a top five pick in most drafts after scoring over 20 total touchdowns last season and catching over 80 passes. Alvin Kamara is one of the safest picks of any running back in this year’s draft.

The Steals – Deonte Harris

Deonte Harris really began cementing his role in the Saints offense at the end of last season. Harris only played in nine regular season games but managed to be on the field for 169 offensive snaps. This was over 100 more snaps than his rookie season. This is a good sign of how Harris will likely be used this season. The upswing in the offense was on display in the playoffs of 2020. Against the Chicago Bears, Harris caught seven passes for 83 yards. In points-per-reception leagues, this would lend Harris to be a very valuable receiver on any roster. Currently, Harris is not being drafted in standard 12-team leagues. There are some off-field issues with an arrest that could cost Harris a couple of games into the NFL season to take into account. With his expanding role in the offense, spending a late pick on Harris is still a worthy investment.

The Sleepers – Marquez Callaway

The hot training camp name is Marquez Callaway. With the thin wide receiver unit, the second-year player is worth a roster spot. There is going to be another pass catcher in this Saints offense. Sean Payton has had a top 10 offense nearly every year of his head coaching career. With a change at quarterback, expect the Saints to get creative in getting the ball in the hands of the skill position players. It takes most players a year to get acquainted with Payton’s offense and that holds true for Callaway. After flashing at times late last year, Callaway gets his first full off-season with the club and offense. When taking late-round fliers on players in fantasy drafts, taking one on a perennially high-end offense is smart.

The Suspect – Tre’Quan Smith

Very seldom does a player emerge in their fourth year in the NFL. A fourth-year wonder is not really a saying around the NFL and it is likely that holds true for Tre’Quan Smith. If Callaway and Harris lead the Saints without Thomas, then Smith is likely to be the odd man out. Smith started more games and had more receptions in 2020 than either of his first two seasons. However, Smith did not score more than any of his previous season. He also barely eclipsed his yardage high from his rookie year with more targets. Smith is currently a late-round draft pick in most fantasy drafts. With how his career has gone so far, spending late picks on the aforementioned Saints instead of Smith might be better selections.
