New Orleans Saints sign QB Kellen Mond

Another QB in the backup competition.

This morning, the New Orleans Saints announced that former Minnesota Vikings and Cleveland Browns QB Kellen Mond has signed a 1-year deal.

This signing follows the pattern of the Saints targeting players with ties to the new coaching staff. The former third-round pick out of Texas A&M played under Kubiak during his rookie year and recently said he knows the 49ers’ offense. This is important because Klint Kubiak is bringing that offense to New Orleans, so the signing makes more sense. Mond will compete for the second and third string QB spots against Jake Haener and Nathan Peterman.
