The pros and cons of Jets failing to extend Marcus Maye

As expected, Thursday came and went without the Jets and Marcus Maye agreeing to a long-term contract extension.

With Maye set to play this upcoming season on his $10.612 million franchise tag, his future with the Jets is now in question. Losing Maye in free agency next spring would not bode well for Robert Saleh’s chances of rebuilding New York’s defense on the fly, as the 28-year-old is one of the best safeties in football right now.

Gang Green’s inability to extend Maye before Thursday’s deadline is not all bad, though. With that in mind, here are the pros and cons of Maye and the Jets not coming to terms on a deal.
