Buckeye to Brown was a good to Cleveland last year with Dawand Jones, now a Bearcat as well

The Cleveland Browns finally entered the fray of the 2024 NFL draft and didn’t trade their second-round pick for the first time in three years. Instead, GM Andrew Berry looked an hour and a half south once again and selected DT Michael Hall Jr. from The Ohio State University with the 54th overall selection.

Hall was our selection in Friday morning’s Browns Day 2 mock draft.

Hall continues the revamp of Cleveland’s defensive line since DC Jim Schwartz took over last year, especially on the interior. Then the Browns spent their final pick of the 2024 NFL draft on another defensive tackle, Cincinnati Bearcats Jowon Briggs.

Biggs visited the team predraft.

Since firing Joe Woods and hiring Schwartz, Berry has added the following players who make up a majority of the team’s DT depth chart:

  • Dalvin Tomlinson – Free agent
  • Siaki Ika – 3rd round pick 2023
  • Shelby Harris – Free agent
  • Maurice Hurst – Free agent
  • Quinton Jefferson – Free agent
  • Michael Hall Jr. – 2nd round pick 2024
  • Jowon Briggs – 7th round pick 2024

The Browns also have Jayden Peevy and Chris Williams at the position.

It will be interesting if Cleveland is able to carry six defensive tackles with all four vets having guaranteed money. Last year, the Browns initial 53-man roster had just four defensive tackles before Hurst was re-signed a day later.

Seeing Cleveland’s top six defensive tackles, how do you feel about the depth at that position going into the season?
