NFL free agency: Giants sign Browns LB, special teamer

Matthew Adams played 85% of the Browns special teams last year

There have been lots of names given to the NFL over the years. Often, the “No Fun League” is the one that fits the majority of the decisions made by the league but, for fans, “Not For Long” is an apt description of the experience of getting to know players on their teams.

For Cleveland Browns fans, having players come and go quickly has been mostly a bad thing over the years with draft picks busting and free agents failing. Things are turning around but change is certain.

Last year, LB Matthew Adams was brought in during NFL free agency to give new special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone a player he was familiar with. In 2023, Adams played in 435 snaps on special teams and, due to a multitude of injuries, played in 97 snaps on defense.

While Adams was trusted to play 85% of the Browns special teams snaps, GM Andrew Berry brought in LB Devin Bush and CB Tony Brown as free agents to take over for Adams and CB Mike Ford Jr.

Less than two weeks before the NFL draft, Adams found a new home with the New York Giants:

Last year in Cleveland, Adams had 17 tackles and a huge forced fumble against the New York Jets that set the Browns up in scoring position in Week 17, helping clinch a playoff spot.
