NFL free agency: Texans agree to sign LB Del’Shawn Phillips

The Houston Texans kicked off Day 2 of the legal tampering window with a linebacker.

Houston agreed to a one-year deal with former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Del’Shawn Phillips, according to Aaron Wilson. Terms of the deal were not immediately reported.

Phillips, 27, is a former undrafted free agent who’s played mostly on special teams. He played 79% the Ravens’ special teams snaps in 2023 and 1,021 for his career. Phillips added 24 tackles and one fumble recovery in 17 games, including one start.

Before Baltimore, Phillips spent time with the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets. He played 160 defensive snaps for the Jets in 2021 where he recorded a career-high 31 combined tackles and on sack.

Phillips is the third defensive depth and special teams addition Texans general manager Nick Caserio made so far this offseason. Houston also signed defensive backs Lonnie Johnson and Mike Ford, who played mostly on special teams as well.
