Football!

Welcome to Washington’s second preseason game of the 2020 season! Tonight the Washington Football Team hosts the Cincinnati Bengals. Expect Ryan Fitzpatrick to play a quarter or more as Head Coach Ron Rivera looks to see his new starting QB in action. On the other side, 2nd year QB Joe Burrow will not play tonight on the field where he suffered his season ending injury in 2020. Coach Ron Rivera announced early in the week that Sammis Reyes would not play in this game. For a review of some interesting roster battles, click here.

Washington moved the ball well in the first quarter, but struggled to finish drives with points. The defense minimized what the Bengals offense was able to accomplish.

In the second quarter, despite mostly efficient passing stats, Taylor Heinicke nearly got intercepted, actually fumbled the ball, and got a bit of coaching from Joe Theismann in the booth, but he also had a couple of good scrambles. Players like Jaret Patterson, Dyami Brown and Antonio Gandy-Golden got some opportunities to show what they could do in the first half of a preseason game. The good news is that Dustin Hopkins was 2 for 2 on his field goal attempts.

The defensive dominance continued with Torry McTyer and Ben St-Juste spending most of the half playing with both Fuller and William Jackson sitting out this game. The Bengals got only two first downs and less than 60 yards of total offense in the first half.

Halftime score:
Washington: 6
Cincinnati: 3
