Kamara is the sixth Saint to appear on the countdown

Alvin Kamara’s bounceback 2020 got him some well-earned recognition. After checking in at No. 42 on the NFL’s Top 100 list — voted on by the players — prior to the 2020 season, the New Orleans Saints running back reprised the No. 14 spot heading into this year. He previously held No. 14 before 2019.

It’s a well-earned jump for Kamara. He was by no means bad in 2019, but injuries visibly hampered his explosiveness. His return to form in 2020 was apparent and immediate. Kamara had a career-high 21 touchdowns on a Saints offense that was hampered by injuries throughout the year. He had to carry a lot of weight on offense, and he did so.

Kamara had a career-high 932 rushing yards and set another career-high in yards from scrimmage at 1,688.

Part of the key to Kamara’s success was head coach Sean Payton’s ability to utilize his versatility again. In his rookie year, Kamara was moving all over the formation, sometimes splitting out and sometimes lining up in the slot in addition to his running back duties. There was less of that in 2019, but 2020 saw Kamara moving all over the place.

Kamara joins Marshon Lattimore (No. 86), Terron Armstead (No. 79), Michael Thomas (No. 72), Demario Davis (No. 64 and criminally underrated), and Cameron Jordan (No. 46) on the NFL’s Top 100 list. The Top 10 will air next week on Sunday, Aug. 29.
