The Cincinnati Bengals don’t figure to trade star wide receiver Tee Higgins.

But that won’t stop other teams from talking about the possibility.

And that apparently includes the Pittsburgh Steelers. According to Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh, the Steelers have had internal discussions about making a move for Higgins.

Given the team’s need at the position, the Steelers would be foolish not to discuss all possible options. But as the report goes on to note, the fact the Bengals would ramp up the asking price for Higgins within the AFC North is a major problem.

Any team trading for Higgins is highly unlikely because of Cincinnati’s likely massive asking price. Coughing that up, paying Higgins a massive extension — and adding on AFC North tax to the trade — would likely be unreasonable for the Steelers.

The fact this is a conversation at all, though, reveals how other teams might feel about Higgins despite a deep draft class. He had asked for a trade amid the contract standoff after the franchise tag and a new report says there hasn’t been any progress toward an extension.
