Tennessee Titans wide receiver A.J. Brown has been the subject of trade speculation recently, but a recent report, as well as quotes from head coach Mike Vrabel and general manager Jon Robinson, make it clear that the team has no intention of dealing its star wide receiver.

While a trade is off the table, the Titans must reach a contract extension with Brown before he hits free agency in 2023, and such a deal will no doubt be expensive.

Spotrac estimates his value at a contract worth $22.7 million per over four years after some major wide receiver deals that have been handed out this offseason.

Pro Football Focus threw its hat into the contract projection ring and thinks Brown could receive a five-year, $115 million deal, which comes in at $23 million annually.

Taking issue with that projection is former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson, who believes Brown shouldn’t say yes to anything less than a five-year, $140 million deal, which would pay the Ole Miss product $28 million per and make him tied for the second highest annual average in the NFL.

While it is very possible Brown could net that much from the Titans, that will greatly depend upon what he does in 2022.

The only question about the star wideout is his ability to stay healthy after missing six games the past two seasons (two in 2020 and four in 2021), and he has exited early from or played hurt through multiple others.

If Brown can remain healthy for a full 17-game slate, he will no doubt post monster numbers, which could lead to his earning closer to Johnson’s number.

However, if he struggles to stay on the field and posts stats similar to what he has the past two seasons, he likely won’t get maximum value from the Titans.
