Here is our scouting report on running back Isaac Guerendo from Louisville

One of the biggest surprises in the NCAA last season was the Louisville Cardinals. Though they finished 10-4, Louisville surprised many by winding up in the ACC title game and being ranked as high as #10 in the country with wins against Notre Dame and Miami. The backfield tandem of Jawhar Jordan and Isaac Guerendo led the Cardinals. Jordan led the team in rushing, running for over 1,000 yards. Still, Guerendo has garnered attention for himself after running for 11 touchdowns last season and showing off impressive physical measurements at 6’, 220 lbs. and running a 4.33 at the NFL scouting combine. That size and speed have captured the attention of draftniks to further assess the intriguing prospect.

Like his backfield partner, Guerendo is viewed as a mid-late-round prospect with upside that can be developed into a bit player as part of a committee. He can also provide assistance as a kick returner on special occasions. If selected by the Dallas Cowboys, don’t expect Guerendo to earn playing time early on. His primary objective will be to compete with Deuce Vaughn to occupy a spot behind Rico Dowdle on the depth chart. With that in mind, here’s what the film says about the speedy Louisville Cardinal running back.

Gurendo runs with good body lean to avoid taking big shots. He is the perfect 1-cut runner to get downhill but not ideally a smash-mouth type of runner, as he runs through contact fairly easily but not with bulldozing power as his size may suggest. Guerendo has good lateral movement. He’s shifty behind the line of scrimmage to make defenders miss in the backfield. Regarding his speed, the stopwatch matches the film. Against Virginia Tech, Guerendo had several long runs, showcasing his ability to leave a defense in the dust. Guerendo’s vision stands out.

Routinely, Guerendo sets up blocks well to cut off the hip of the pulling guard on counter runs. As a receiver, there’s not much diversity in what he’s asked to do, usually being relegated to flats and check-downs out of the backfield while largely being aligned in the backfield in the majority of his time on the field. Guerendo would be best fit as an early-down runner to spell the starting running back for the Cowboys.
