The Cowboys must control the game with an efficient offensive effort complementing a solid performance from an improving defense. Dan Quinn’s unit has been outstanding at generating turnovers and creating short fields for the defense. Trevon Diggs and Co. will need to be on top of their games in the secondary to free up additional defenders to play near the line of scrimmage to neutralize Dalvin Cook and the Vikings’ running game. Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch, and Randy Gregory must stay disciplined with their run fits while also disrupting the passing game as relentless pass rushers. If the Cowboys can squash the run and make it a Kirk Cousins’ game with the veteran forced to throw 40-plus times, the turnovers will eventually come with the veteran eventually succumbing to pressure.

Dak Prescott must exhibit poise, patience, and discipline against an ultra-aggressive Vikings’ defense. The savvy quarterback must be on point with his hot reads and sight adjustments to counter the Double-A gap pressures that Mike Zimmer will throw at him. Offensive coordinator Kellen Moore must maintain balance in the game plan by giving Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard plenty of touches on the ground. If the Cowboys finish with a 50-50 run-pass ratio, they will control the game and win a tight contest on their own terms.

For now, a team found out the truth of Dallas’ position here, as according to Bryan Broaddus of 105.3 The Fan, the Cowboys received a trade offer for Connor McGovern … and got turned down.

Keep in mind: McGovern doesn’t actually … well, play very much.

But the coaches believe he has enormous potential as a starting guard. So he sits, alongside Nsekhe, really, waiting his turn … as does the back-from-suspension La’el Collins, who also for this week at Minnesota can’t get off the Dallas bench.

The Cowboys, so far anyway, are hoarding their O-linemen. Barnell’s weird “why” is his belief that Dallas “would get back linebacker depth in Wilson,” as he believes a “replacement” is needed for the released-to-the-Packers linebacker Jaylon Smith.

All eyes will be on a Dak Prescott leading up to kick off on Halloween night.

Officially Prescott is listed as questionable because of a calf strain he suffered on the game-winning touchdown pass in overtime against the New England Patriots on Oct. 17. He did not take any team snaps during the week in the regular practices, but he did take them in all of the walkthroughs.

The Cowboys went through what they call their “launch” practice, a fast-paced workout, before flying to Minneapolis on Saturday afternoon.

On Thursday, Prescott said that he wanted to play but that the decision would not be totally his. Dallas will rely heavily on Prescott and director of rehabilitation Britt Brown, who oversaw the quarterback’s comebacks from the fracture and dislocation of his right ankle and the right latissimus strain he suffered in training camp, before making a decision.

Although he wants to play, Prescott acknowledged that the decision needs to be based on what’s best for a full season. The Cowboys have won five straight games and have a commanding lead in the NFC East, but they currently sit fourth in the conference playoff standings behind the Green Bay Packers, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, whom they lost to in the season opener, and the Arizona Cardinals.

The team activated the rookie cornerback from the injured reserve list on Saturday and he is expected to be available to play against Minnesota on Sunday.

The Minnesota Vikings are a bit of an enigma so far this season.

The Dallas Cowboys are back to work in Week 8 after enjoying their bye. Their next opponent also took last week off, and have had a different kind of season thus far. Just who are these Minnesota Vikings that we’ll be visit on Sunday Night Football?

Minnesota is 3-3 and that record could be deceptive. Their three losses have been against some of the NFL’s top teams so far in Arizona, Cincinnati, and Cleveland.

Not only that, but the Vikings have kept it very close against the Cardinals and Bengals. The road team in both games, Minnesota took Cincy to OT in Week One and only lost on a last-second field goal to Arizona in Week Two.

The margin between Dallas’ 5-1 record and the Vikings’ 3-3 suddenly looks a lot slimmer in that context. That’s especially true if you factor in how narrowly the Cowboys came out on top against the Chargers and Patriots.

Dak Prescott could be playing with a heavy heart Sunday after losing his grandmother.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, already dealing with the uncertainty of a calf strain that may keep him out of Sunday night’s Week 8 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, has now suffered another heartbreaking loss in his personal life.

The Cowboys signal-caller was officially listed as “questionable” for Sunday’s game in Minnesota, but that pales in comparison to the other news that has touched the entire Prescott family.

Prescott’s maternal grandmother, Margaret Ebarb, has passed away. The quarterback shared several photos and messages about her Friday on his Instagram page.

“I promise to Make you Proud!” read one, in part. “I’ll forever be Thankful 4 You,” read another.

Ebarb was instrumental in helping Dak and his siblings after their mother (and Ebarb’s daughter), Peggy, lost her battle with colon cancer in 2013.
