Almost a year to the day and Dak finds himself preparing for the same opponent in a game that can only be viewed as the final chapter in his comeback story.

FRISCO, Texas – I didn’t notice the first, second or maybe even the third time I glanced over the Cowboys’ 2021 schedule this spring.

But at some point in May, it clicked and my eyes bugged out of my face.

You’ll never, ever convince me this weekend is a coincidence. I’m well aware that the NFL considers tens of thousands of schedule combinations in the leadup to the annual release, and there are 31 other teams and storylines to consider. But it can’t be an accident.

It’s just way too weird for Week 5, at AT&T Stadium to once again be the New York Giants – the same opponent, the same weekend, the same building that saw Dak Prescott’s season come to a devastating end last season.

This league is the greatest reality television show in the world, so I guess it’d be naïve to assume they’d play it any other way. For Dak Prescott, his broken and dislocated right ankle is ancient history – something he insisted he’d buried way back in the spring. For the world at large, it’s too juicy a narrative to ignore.

Zeke has never been the one to care too much about individual accolades, he is just focused on getting a win by any means necessary.

Elliott is coming off his seventh-best rushing day in the NFL. He had 143 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. “It feels good to go out there and win football games,” he said, dismissing any suggestion that he cared about his individual statistics. “It feels good to go out there and somewhat dominate teams. I think we’re at a good spot as a team. Seems like things are clicking. Just got to keep getting better.” When he was pushed on whether his performance last week made a statement, Elliott credited his offensive line. “I think it was a statement game for this team. I think the o-line came out and dominated their front,” he said. “They’re the reason we were so successful on the ground. I don’t like making it about, ‘Oh, I did this to make a statement because you guys thought I was [crappy].’ That’s not why I come out here and play. I don’t come out here to play to prove to people that I’m a good player. I come out here to play to help my team win. I come out and play to support my brothers. Anything I do on the field is not to prove someone wrong. It’s to prove to my team that I love them and I’ll do anything to go out there and help them win a football game.” But did that 143 yards feel good?

Nobody is playing the cornerback position better than Trevon Diggs. That comes with respect, but does respect mean he won’t be tested as often any more?

If there’s one player that knows all about facing top-tier cornerbacks, it should be Amari Cooper.

He usually faces the opponent’s best corner week in and week out.

So he knows exactly what offenses and receivers must be thinking when it comes to play the Cowboys’ Trevon Diggs.

Right now, there isn’t a cornerback better in the NFL than Diggs, who leads the league with five picks and has one in every game this year, including two last week.

Diggs is playing so well that Cooper said things are about to change, out of “respect” of course.

“Hopefully he can keep it up,” Cooper said on Thursday. “But I told him, ‘ I don’t think they’re going to keep throwing at you. So you’ve got to get it while you can. It’s inevitable that he’ll get some more opportunities, but I don’t think he’s going to get as many. It’s just a respect thing.”

While every player obviously wants to be respected, Diggs hopes he still gets the chance to make plays.

“I hope they continue to throw the ball, honestly through because I want to make those plays,” said Diggs, the second player in Cowboys history to record five pick in four games. “I want more (chances), I want to be able to make those opportunities. If it happens it happens.”

Friday hearing coming in La’el Collins’s lawsuit against NFL – Mike Florio, ProFootballTalk

Collins has a hearing set for this afternoon at 2:00 PM ET.

As noted by Daniel Wallach on Twitter (and as confirmed by PFT), Judge Amos L. Mazzant will hold a hearing on Friday in connection with Collins’s motion for a temporary restraining order blocking his ongoing suspension. The hearing will commence at 2:00 p.m. ET.

If Collins wins, the NFL will have little choice but to reinstate him for the Week Five game against the Giants.

[Collins] argues that the substance-abuse policy, as revised in 2020, does not permit a suspension for missed tests. He also claims that the NFL misrepresented to the arbitrator that Collins previously served a four-game suspension, a fact the arbitrator expressly cited in upholding the suspension.

With the departure of Jaylon Smith to the Green Bay Packers, it leaves a big opportunity for Jabril Cox to show what he has.

But let’s not make this about Jaylon. We’ve discussed it already and since it tends to be sensitive topic to a certain faction of Cowboys fans, let’s move past it. This is about the roster ramifications and who stands to gain from the situation.

Even before recent events the linebacker hierarchy was well established. Micah Parsons, Keanu Neal, and Leighton Vander Esch were/are your top-3 LBs. That much isn’t changing anytime soon, even if Parsons splits time at defensive end. It’s what comes after, that’s worth discussing.

Jabril Cox, the Dallas Cowboys fourth round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, was a draftnik darling from Day One. Considered a top-50 prospect by many, Cowboys fans were enamored to acquire him at Pick 115. The dynamic linebacker out of LSU has a next generation skillset and coverage ability and seems perfectly suited to be a star in today’s pass-happy NFL.

Dak Prescott is the likely Comeback Player of The Year, but is he in the MVP discussion?

We’re one month into the 2021 NFL season, which means we have enough film to make some early MVP projections.

As we all know, the award skews heavily toward quarterbacks. No position is more important, so most of this list will be comprised of signal-callers who have been ultra productive through the first four games.

Some QBs you won’t find on this list, however, including guys like Aaron Rodgers, Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes, because I wanted to focus only on players who have yet to win the award.

There’s nothing more enticing than envisioning a prosperous future for budding stars, including those who don’t touch the ball on every down. With that in mind, here are the top 10 first-time MVP candidates after the first quarter of the season.
