Getting things set for the Patriots game.

One concern for the Dallas Cowboys going into the game at the New England Patriots has been the status of LT Tyron Smith. He popped up on the injury report with a neck injury that led to an MRI. With his history of neck problems, it was an unsettling development. The results of the scan were reportedly good, and now it looks more and more that Smith will be back at his job anchoring that side of the offensive line.

Brandon Knight is going to lose his spot on the 53-man roster as Ty Nsekhe is now healthy enough to man the swing tackle job this week. It will be interesting to see how things will develop over the bye as La’el Collins is expected to return as the starting RT. That will make Terence Steele also available for backup tackle duties. The team may elect to keep both Steele and Nsekhe on the roster after the horror show that was 2020.

As noted, the staff will want to get Knight to the practice squad, but there are some teams that are hurting for tackle depth. He may be claimed by one of them. It would be good for him, but would also cost the Cowboys a nice insurance piece.

The signings of Jeremy Sprinkle and Nick Ralston also were part of the equation here, as that meant that someone had to be cut to get back to 53. Sprinkle is needed for TE depth, but Sean McKeon is expected to be back soon from his injury. Ralston has been contributing on special teams which is his best ticket to sticking the rest of the season.
