Good wrestling move, but it’ll cost Witherspoon some money.

Seattle Seahawks rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon has lived up to the hype and then some as the No. 5 overall pick. He’s one of the league leaders in passes defensed, leads all corners in sacks, and it would not be a shock if he ends up winning Defensive Rookie of the Year.

…And maybe he has a future as a pro wrestler after he took Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Austin Trammell to Suplex City last week.

The problem with that play? It was deemed a wee bit excessive by the officials, and Witherspoon picked up an unnecessary roughness penalty.

Thankfully, this penalty wasn’t costly, as Riq Woolen picked off Matthew Stafford on the next play. It will, however, be costly to Witherspoon’s wallet. The NFL has handed Witherspoon the first fine of his young career.

It’s not a Seahawks game without one of Seattle’s players getting fined, so I guess it was Witherspoon’s turn.
