The Tennessee Titans figure to be active in the tight end market in free agency, but could future Hall of Famer Rob Gronkowski really be an option?

According to Chad Withrow of Outkick 360, the Titans and Gronkowski have “serious mutual interest,” which makes Tennessee an option for the veteran tight end in 2022.

Coming off his best season since 2017, Gronkowski would be a great fit for the Titans. Not only would he provide an upgrade as a pass-catcher at the position, but Gronkowski is also a good blocker, making him the well-rounded, primary option Tennessee needs.

In 2021, Gronkowski tallied 55 catches for 802 yards and six scores in 12 games. That’s more yards than all three members of the Titans’ tight end rotation (Anthony Firkser, Geoff Swaim and MyCole Pruitt) had combined.

The only concern with Gronk is injuries, something he has dealt with plenty during his career. The 32-year-old missed five games in 2021, and has missed 18 games in total in the last five seasons he has played.

Spotrac estimates Gronkowski will net a one-year deal worth $9.5 million. However, neither that, nor his injury history, should deter the Titans from at least considering him in free agency.

Gronkowski would be a great stopgap solution at the position that greatly helps a win-now team like the Titans, and he would give Tennessee one season to develop a young tight end if they take one in the 2022 NFL draft.
