Last week, I discussed the Miami Dolphins’ logo and the fact that most of the team’s fan base would like to see a return to its old logo, aka the logo used on the throwback uniforms. Everyone seems to love the old-school look except for the one person with the final say in such matters: the team owner, Stephen Ross. I always thought Ross would eventually cave to the fanbase’s wishes until someone who has the man’s ear, the one and only Dan Marino, came out and publicly stated that Ross would never change the logo.

In last week’s post, I then asked the question-

How do we, as a fan base, start to apply enough pressure on the owner to consider and then eventually revert to the classic logo? Could some grassroots effort be started, such as an online petition? Do you have any other ideas, or are we stuck until Ross hands the team over to his daughter?

Below are some of your answers-

As a side, RIP to the great Dickey Betts, who passed away last week.

Miami7 believes that Ross’ belief that changing the log is one of his accomplishments. I hope this is not a case of a billionaire allowing his ego to get in the way of giving the fans what they want.

Ross has ultimately provided an immeasurable amount of embarrassment to the Dolphins franchise. His complete lack of football acumen has left him attempting gimmickry over substance in operations.

He does OK on the business end of things but costing your team draft picks is beyond ignorance or naivety. HE ordered the design change (uni’s) and likely doesn’t wish to revert because he views that as one of his accomplishments?

Even an online petition…I just don’t think we’d get enough ‘traffic’ to put the true #’s of people hoping for a revision to the original in Ross’ face. He’s blind/deaf to SO MANY aspects of the Dolphins… history – personnel – fanbase.

What we need is a voice INSIDE…a BIG voice…like Tyreek or Tua stating publicly, “Give the fans what they want – we all want the retro uni’s brought back too. These new version uni’s are NOT how anybody (fans or fans of other teams) identifies the Miami Dolphins. The old logo is UNDEFEATED.”

I became a fan of the Miami Dolphins at 12 yrs. old in 1970. 80% of the reason was Shula’s trade for Paul Warfield. The other half was because of the logo! (Yogi-ism). The Huizenga to Ross Dolphins have been filled with embarrassment – turmoil – a myriad of failed coaches/GMs/Czars/Presidents and the ridiculous unnecessary uniform change. Maybe it’s simply maturation, but I’ve lost so much

‘die-hardedness’ toward this team that my wife is even shocked by my faded fandom. SO MUCH has been handled so ridiculously poorly. That said – I certainly can’t get them outta my system. I’m ‘HERE’, so obviously still invested. Even living near Buffalo and being mocked for the ‘soft’ uniforms and pathetic play I do enjoy Dolphins football again of late (even with the lousy product the league has created with all of the stupid rule changes). Tua may be THE most controversial lightning rod this league has EVER seen….with the #’s indicating he is much more than his play vs +.500/playoff teams would suggest – but this is WAY too long already so…….another time on that one. Just change the GD uni’s back to when we were proud to be Dolphins fans!!!

MiMiami has a radical plan that might get us all run over. Okay, fine, I’m in!

What if we all link up, arm in arm, and walk on I95 starting at exit 2B Downtown Miami going north? This Friday at about 5:30pm when traffic is heaviest.

That’ll certainly send a message and change the world. Always has.

VolFaninFla understood the desired outcome.

Get rid of the sperm whale and go back to the OG.

cyberflea wants us to get rid of the owners, which only time will do at this point.

Get rid of our owner Mr Magoo….He has to much invested in the new ugly uni’s and will not change them. The logo is terrible….looks like the Dolphin is taking an upper cut to the jaw and its just ugly because it is so off with the curvature of the helmet. The aqua is so weak, if you can even call it aqua. Terrible design.

TheRoo1 has some ideas.

Start an internet rumor that the new logo,,,,,,,

A. Causes cancer

B Isn’t inclusive

C. Is one of the evil rich

D. is spreading Covid

EKUniverse is correct on the financial side, which might have been the one thing that would have forced the owner’s hand.

There is no financial incentive to make a permanent change. The team continues to sell merch with both the modern look and with the retro look. Most can agree that if they permanently switch to the retro set, the current look will have no chance of becoming “vintage” for some time, causing the team to lose out on that revenue.

MIAMI235 wants to know to whom to send the nasty letters…

Real question, whose idea was it to change them initially, years ago….

SuperG! is sending his “best man.” I guess the G stands for Gangsta!

I’m sending my best man to make Ross an offer…

SuperG! might be dangerous…

Maybe we can convince Tyreek to slap Ross upside the head??

BuffaloFinsUp thinks we have a choice! No, I want both!!!

Wish the answer was as simple as a Merch Boycott on the new logo. Or Throwback-only game days or events.

But the sheer numbers work against the Throwback Throng; and the more success the Phins have, the morethe casual fan will connect with & live the new look.

So the question becomes, what do you want more? Getting the old look back? Or more Phins wins?

daytonadolfan is, I think, advocating for a kidnapping of sorts…

Hire this guy to grab Tyreek and hold him until the boss breaks and goes back to the retro’s?

SuperG! had yet another. I told you, OG!

Get an invite onto Ross’ yacht and offer him some bribery or blackmail?

The consensus seems to be that we will continue using the current logo as long as Mr. Ross is still with us. I still think that as much as he says he won’t change something, his mind can change. How many other wealthy owners have we seen state they would never do this or that to only fold in the end? Thank you again to everyone who once again took the time to answer the question of the day and give their thoughts on the subject. I will be back with a post tomorrow evening and the night after that before we transition over to the draft coverage for a couple of nights.
