Former Patriots safety Patrick Chung pleads not guilty to assault charges

Patrick Chung appeared in Quincy District Court on Tuesday after being arrested in Milton, Mass. on Monday. The former New England Patriots safety was charged with alleged assault and battery of a household/family member and vandalizing property.

According to a police report, Chung allegedly pushed a woman and caused her to fall to the ground. He allegedly also hit her in the face with his open hand, and is furthermore accused of taking her cell phone and throwing it.

Paramedics arrived at the incident, but, according to WBZ 4 Boston, no treatment was required.

Chung pleaded not guilty to the charges, per Meghan Ottolini of the Boston Herald, and was later released on personal surety. He will need to pay $10,000 in case he violates a restraining order the judge put in place.

“He looks forward to being able to set the record straight with respect to what actually occurred. He’s the victim, not the aggressor of this matter,” Chung’s attorney said on Tuesday. “My client is a gentleman, and in no way would ever harm a woman. That as much I am sure about.”

A three-time world champion who appeared in a combined 163 regular season and playoff games for the Patriots, Chung announced his retirement from the NFL earlier this year.
