The Tennessee Titans made their second pick of the 2024 NFL draft on Friday night when they selected Texas defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat with the 38th overall pick.

Sweat addresses a key need for Tennessee, a team in desperate need of help along a defensive line that was arguably the thinnest position group.

The Texas product is a space-eater up the middle and can dominate against the run, and he also has some pass-rush prowess that could make him an every-down lineman at the next level. It’s quite the intriguing add, especially when you consider he’ll be lining up alongside Jeffery Simmons.

The concern comes from Sweat’s off-the-field history, which includes a recent arrest for suspicion of driving while intoxicated. However, after meeting with the 22-year-old after the incident, general manager Ran Carthon felt comfortable enough not to take him off the board.

“You could see that he recognized his mistake and the part that he played in it,” Carthon said on Friday night, per Terry McCormick of Titan Insider.

The off-the-field concerns no doubt impacted the draft grade handed out by our own Matthew Curry, who gave the Titans a “C” for the pick. Let’s see how other experts graded the selection.
