Jason Myers misses… and misses. Again.

You could blame a lot of factors for the Seattle Seahawks’ Monday Night Meltdown against the New Orleans Saints; the coaching, the officiating, the bomb cyclone… and while the windy weather did the team no favors, kicker Jason Myers did his part to contribute to the loss as he continued to struggle with inconsistent accuracy. He had two misses in Seattle’s home defeat, and in a game that was ultimately decided by three points, these misses hurt… a lot.

Weather is obviously an uncontrollable factor, but this isn’t the first time on the season that a Jason Myers miss has contributed significantly towards the team’s struggles; as you may recall, Wilson Conn detailed his issues in the Titans game where his missed PAT loomed large in the final box score. His missed 35-yarder in the game against the Los Angeles Rams came at a highly inopportune time, as well, as Seattle had the chance to go up 10-3 at the end of the first half and set to receive the opening kickoff in the third quarter. No team can afford to miss out on an opportunity at points, and especially not this Seahawks squad.

After hitting only one of his three field goal attempts on Monday Night Football, Jason Meyers has now only made 60% on the season (6 for 10), with three of his four misses coming from inside of fifty yards. This puts him in unenviable territory, as no other kicker with at least five tries on the season has made fewer than 70% of their attempts, according to Pro Football Reference. He has also missed the aforementioned PAT. And for the player whose contract carries the tenth highest total value among kickers, per Over the Cap, this simply isn’t good enough.
