The New England Patriots are not the only team in the AFC East facing some major questions at quarterback. The New York Jets, who have lost three straight games to drop to 4-6 on the year, have decided to bench Zach Wilson.

The former first-round draft pick will not start the upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins, as first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. In his place, the Jets will turn to career journeyman Tim Boyle.

Wilson, 24, joined the Jets as the second overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft — 13 picks ahead of the Patriots drafting Mac Jones. Despite some impressive athletic traits, his game never translated to the NFL level: he struggled right out of the gate and showed little improvement over his first two seasons in New York.

As a result, the Jets acquired long-time Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers via trade this offseason. With Rodgers tearing his Achilles tendon just four snaps into his first game as a Jet, however, Wilson was again pushed into the starting role. However, he continued to play bad football.

In 10 games this year, he completed only 59.2 percent of his passes for 1,944 yards, six touchdowns, seven interceptions, and five lost fumbles. He was already pulled from the Jets’ 32-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, and now seems to have lost his starting role for good.
