As many have feared, Russell Wilson is going to be sidelined for some time to come. But, as Ian Rapoport reports this morning, the indomitable signal caller for the Seattle Seahawks is targeting the early side of the timetable and hoping to be back for the team’s Week 10 tilt against Green Bay.

As John P. Gilbert reported earlier this week, Wilson had surgery on Friday, and while the good news so far is that the surgery was “very successful,” per Rapoport, the timetable for Wilson’s return is very much up in the air. However, Wilson and his doctors seem to be in agreement that Week 10 is realistic.

The fact that Wilson is recovering from not one but two finger injuries was news to me, with the first being the widely reported “Mallet Finger” injury, and the second being a stress fracture to the same finger. For more information on how rare this is, along with some further speculation on return timetable, Dr. David Chao of Pro Football Doc offers a good (and surprisingly optimistic) explanation in the clip below.

Ultimately, Dr. Chao also lands on Week 10 as a realistic goal, though it is certain that Wilson will still be managing these injuries by that point, so it is hard to predict exactly what a return to the field will look like. Of course, Lambeau has not been the most hospitable locale for these Seahawks, but either way the team can feel some degree of relief that this may only keep Wilson sidelined for the next three games and the fortuitously placed Bye Week. During this stretch, the Hawks will go on the road to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers (1-3) before returning home to face the New Orleans Saints (2-2) and the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-4).
