Minnesota Vikings at Baltimore Ravens: Second quarter recap and third quarter discussion

It’s a 7-point lead for the good guys

They’re heading to the locker room at halftime in Baltimore, and your Minnesota Vikings lead the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 17-10.

The Vikings started the quarter with a goal-to-go situation at the Baltimore 5-yard line, and they got pushed to a 4th-and-goal at the 2 after a couple of runs from Dalvin Cook. Mike Zimmer left the offense out on the field, and while the pass fell incomplete, the Ravens were called for pass interference to give the Vikings a free set of downs. Two plays later, Kirk Cousins went over the top for a 1-yard score, with Greg Joseph’s extra point making it 14-3.

The two teams then exchanged punts, and it looked like the Vikings may have gotten a huge break with Dan Chisena appeared to recover what looked to be a muffed punt at the Baltimore 11-yard line, but the ball was ruled to have not touched a Baltimore player. It did lead to another Baltimore punt, however. Unfortunately, the Vikings had to punt it away just after the two-minute warning, with the Ravens taking over at their own 20 following a touchback.

On the first play of the next Baltimore drive, however, Jackson found Camryn Bynum for the rookie’s first interception of his career!

Unfortunately, the Vikings could only turn the interception into three points, as Greg Joseph connected from 36 yards out to extend the lead to 17-3.

Baltimore finally got into the end zone late in the half, as Jackson found Devonta Freeman for a 5-yard touchdown with just 19 seconds remaining. The play was set up by a big pass interference penalty on Xavier Woods on a deep shot from Jackson to Rashod Bateman. Justin Tucker hit the extra point, and that made the score 17-10 going into the locker room.

The Vikings will get the ball to start the second half. Hopefully they can do something with it and regain the momentum they had early on.
