New England falls to 2-9 on the year.

In the New England Patriots return from the bye, their offensive struggles continued. After two poor interceptions, Mac Jones was benched for the fourth time this season. Turning to Bailey Zappe, things weren’t much better in the second half.

Zappe did lead a touchdown drive but his own interception gifted New York three points. With a chance then to tie the game, Chad Ryland’s 35-yard field goal missed left dropping New England to 2-9 on the year.

Here’s everything that went down at MetLife.

Final Score: (2-9) Patriots 7 : 10 Giants (4-8)

Sunday, November 26, 1:00 p.m. ET | MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ | Broadcast information | Inactives | Game day roster

First Quarter

The Patriots won the toss and deferred, putting Tommy DeVito and the Giants on the field first. New York got on the move early, as a drive starting screen to Wan’Dale Robinson picked up six before Saquon Barkley took his first handoff of the day for 14. The following play, DeVito hit a wide open Jaylin Hyatt for 29 yards to move across midfield. Two plays later, however, a botched handoff on a jet sweep ended up on the ground which Jabrill Peppers recovered.

With Mac Jones drawing the start, New England kept the ball on the ground to set up an opening third-and-two. A delay of game moved the Patriots into a third-and-seven, where Jones’ pass to DeVante Parker was broken up.

Back with the ball, DeVito started with another completion downfield to Hyatt for 22 yards. New York then moved backwards as Peppers recorded a sack to help set up an eventual third-and-17, where DeVito’s pass was dropped short of the sticks.

New England’s next drive started with a 19-yard catch-and-run screen to Parker. After an incompletion and six-yard run by Ezekiel Elliott, Jones’ third-down check down pass went to the back who was able to pick up a fresh set of downs. Back-to-back touches for Rhamondre Stevenson moved the chains again for New England. Facing a then third-and-seven, Jones looked for Tyquan Thornton but the pass fell incomplete.

A Bryce Baringer punt started the Giants next drive at their own six-yard line, where New York picked up some breathing room with a nine-yard completion to Darius Slayton on second-down. Then set up with a third-and-two, DeVito’s pass was batted down by Christian Barmore.

The Patriots leaned on Stevenson to begin their next possession, as the back picked up an opening first down as part as three straight touches. On second-down, an ill advised pass from Mac Jones to Demario Douglas was then intercepted.

Second Quarter

Following the interception, New York got to work as Barkely took a handoff 19 yards to move across midfield. DeVito’s first-down pass was then dropped by Shepard downfield before his third-down attempt was knocked down by Mack Wilson. The Giants then punted back to New England.

The Patriots next drive started at their own nine-yard line with Mac Jones still at quarterback. After a second-down incompletion and miscommunication with Gesicki, Jones was forced to call a timeout. A then third-down handoff to Elliott came close to picking up a first-down but the back was stopped short. New England’s punt then hit a Giants player downfield, but New York recovered.

DeVito’s first pass downfield to Hyatt was broken up by J.C. Jackson before Kyle Dugger took down Barkely for a one-yard stop on second-down. In a third-and-nine, DeVito was forced out of the pocket but was brought down after just a four-yard scramble.

A penalty on the punt pushed New England’s offense back to their own eight-yard line. Jones’ first play from scrimmage went to Kayshon Boutte, who picked up eight yards on a screen. Stevenson then broke one up the middle for 15 yards before the Patriots then faced a third-and-five, where Jones hit Douglas for a conversion. They then went right back to the receiver on a screen, who picked up 14 yards on the run. New England then headed in the wrong direction as a swing pass to Stevenson was blown up. On third-and-15, Jones’ pass to Parker picked up 17 yards and a first-down. On third-and-four outside the red area, Jones delivered an ugly errant interception.

Bobby Okereke took the INT back to New England’s 26-yard line, where the Giants faced an opening third-and-nine. DeVito hit Hyatt on a short crosser, who evaded J.C. Jackson’s tackle for a first-down. Facing a second straight third-and-long following the two-minute warning, DeVito’s pass to Isaiah Hodgins was complete as the receiver then shed Jonathan Jones’ tackle and took it in for a score. Mac Jones remained the QB with 1:48 left in the half and his first pass downfield to Boutte was nearly intercepted. New England then kept it on the ground to set up a third-and-seven, where Jones was nearly sacked but then was brought down for no gain – where the QB fumbled in the process but New England recovered.

The Giants took over at their own 23-yard line with 1:21 left in the half. DeVito hit Robinson for 11 yards to start the drive, but New York was then set up in with a third-and-three. The QB was stopped short of the sticks and they were forced to punt.

New England took back over inside their own 10 with 34 seconds left. A handoff to Elliott for no gain ended the half.

Third Quarter

Bailey Zappe took over at quarterback to start the second half, where an opening kickoff that rolled out of bounds set New England up at their own 40. They needed just one play to move across midfield as Stevenson took a handoff 13 yards. After back-to-back screens set up a third-and-13, where another screen to Douglas came close to picking up a first. On fourth-and-one, a direct snap to Stevenson moved the chains. Then set up with a third-and-six, another completion Douglas moved the chains again. Two plays later, yet another screen to Thornton picked up 15 yards to move New England inside the 10-yard line. Stevenson then took a handoff seven yards into the end zone. [Patriots 7 : 7 Giants]

New York’s first possession of the half started backwards, as Anfernee Jennings brought down DeVito for a sack. On third-and-16, DeVito’s pass deep down the right sideline was complete to Hyatt for 41 yards. Things went backwards again, however, as Keion White got home for a sack to set up third-and-20. From midfield, DeVito’s check down was short of the sticks. New York then punted.

Back with the ball, New England went to the ground as Ezekiel Elliott picked up 22 yards on three straight carries. After an incompletion to Ty Montgomery set up a third-and-eight, Zappe escaped pressure and flipped a ball to Stevenson who – upon review – came up inches short of a first-down. After attempting to draw them offsides, New England eventually punted.

The Giants offense quickly faced a third-and-17 after an offensive holding call, where DeVito’s quick check down to Matt Breida led to another punt.

Fourth Quarter

Two runs from Stevenson picked up a first-down to begin New England’s possession. Zappe then went to the play-action game, where his pass to Smith-Schuster was intercepted by Xavier McKinney.

Injury update: WR Demario Douglas (head) return is doubtful.

New York took over at New England’s 32-yard line after the INT, where they Breida took a third-down handoff for six yards and a conversion. A holding penalty then pushed the Giants back to a first-and-20, where a short run and pair of completions led to a field goal. Randy Bullock’s 42-yard attempt was good. [Patriots 7 : 10 Giants]

The Patriots went back to the ground game with Elliott, who picked up a new set of downs on his first two carries. After Stevenson was then brought down for a loss and Zappe’s screen pass was deflected, New England faced a third-and-11 where the QB was brought down for a sack.

With just over five minutes remaining, a short run and completion set New York up with a third-and-two – where DeVito was brought down for the sixth sack of the day.

Injury update: WR Demario Douglas (head) has been downgraded to out.

Bailey Zappe took back over at midfield with 3:15 remaining, where a pair of Stevenson runs quickly set up a third-and-four. Zappe’s pass was nearly picked off by Okereke but ended on the turf. Going for it following the two-minute warning, a fourth-down pass to Smith-Schuster was complete for a five-yard conversion. After a short completion to Thornton, Stevenson took a handoff 13 yards to move just outside the red area. Facing a then third-and-eight, a jet sweep to Thornton picked up just three yards. With six seconds left, Chad Ryland’s 35-yard field goal was pushed wide left.
