New England looks to get back to .500 on the season.

After a brutal defeat last Monday night, the New England Patriots look to get back on track against the red-hot New York Jets in the Meadowlands. New England will do so with Mac Jones as its starting quarterback.

Earlier in the week, head coach Bill Belichick announced Jones will be “fully available” after he played just three series against the Chicago Bears last week.

As for the Jets, New England’s division rival is red-hot sitting at 5-2 and in the middle of a four-game winning streak.

After a 22-yard punt, New England started with strong field position at the Jets 45-yard line. The Patriots weren’t able to take advantage of it however, going three-and-out as well after a third-down sack by Carl Lawson.

Jake Bailey’s punt pinned New York at the eight-yard line to start their next drive. Facing an early third-down, Wilson extended the play with his legs before finding Tyler Conklin for a 16-yard catch and run. On a following third-down, Wilson again extended the play outside the pocket and found Garrett Wilson downfield for a 54-yard gain. The next play, John Franklin-Meyers beat Isaiah Wynn for a sack, resulting in Marcus Cannon replacing Wynn. The Patriots were able to overcome being behind the sticks as Jones hit Jakobi Meyers on third-down on a crosser for 16-yard conversion. Facing another third-and-long, Jones again found Meyers for a first-down before Jones then converted another third-down with his legs. A strong run by Damien Harris moved the Patriots into the low-red area, but New England then moved backwards after a first-down sack. On third-and-goal, a five-yard Stevenson run led to a Nick Folk 31-yard field goal. [Patriots 3 : 3 Jets]

Second quarter

The Jets started the second quarter with a touch pass to Garrett Wilson who broke off a 23-yard run. Wilson agains found his rookie receiver for a 10-yard gain before hitting Michael Carter out of the backfield for 17 yards, moving into the red area after a Jabrill Peppers unnecessary roughness penalty after the play. On third-down, Wilson delivered a perfect ball to Conklin for an eight-yard score. [Patriots 3 : 10 Jets]

New England faced an early third-down on their next drive which Jones found Stevenson out of the backfield for 22 yards. After a Jones throwaway under pressure and a Damien Harris one-yard gain, Jones was hit on third-down as he was throwing which resulted in an interception.

Taking over after the interception at their own 24-yard line, New England’s defense held strong forcing a three-and-out and a punt.

Facing a long field, New England went backwards on a screen to Jakobi Meyers. On third-down, Jones scrambled and was hit hard by C.J. Mosely as he went to the ground resulting in a 15-yard penalty. After a Cole Strange hold set New England up with a first-and-19, Jones took off again for 12-yard gain and got popped again on his way out of bounds. Two plays later, Jones found Jonnu Smith for a first-down. Jones then found his other tight end Hunter Henry shortly after for a 22-yard gain. Facing a fourth-and-one from the New York 22-yard line, Jones’ pass fell incomplete to end a 13-play, 70-yard drive.

Taking over with just under two minutes remaining in the half, Wilson found Conklin and Carter on back-to-back passes for 18 combined yards. On third-down, New England brought pressure which forced a poor throw from Wilson. His pass was intercepted by Ja’Whaun Bentley.

At the New York 40-yard line with 42 seconds remaining, Jones found Stevenson out of the backfield for a 15-yard gain. The Patriots then nearly avoided disaster, as Jones’ poor pass was picked and returned for an interception. However, a roughing the passing penalty wiped out the play and gave New England 15 yards. After a Cole Strange hold then backed New England up, they settled for a 42-yard field goal. [Patriots 6 : 10 Jets]

Third quarter

Injury Update: WR DeVante Parker (knee) was downgraded to out.

After a dreadful offensive first half, New England’s offense got off to a fast start as Stevenson broke off a 35-yard run on the first play from scrimmage. The drive stalled as New York settled for a field goal, which Greg Zuerlein missed to the left. Jack Jones appeared to have gotten a piece of the kick.

After the miss, New England took over at their own 35-yard line. Jones hit Meyers for a six-yard gain before four straight Damien Harris touches that resulted in 25 combined yards. Down right outside the red area, Quinnen Williams beat Cole Strange for a sack on third-down for a loss of 10. Nick Folk then knocked home a 49-yard field goal to extend New England’s lead. [Patriots 16 : 10 Jets]

New York went backwards to start their following drive after a first-down holding penalty. Matthew Judon then made strong back-to-back plays recording a pass breakup and then knocking down a Jets’ receiver in coverage helping lead to a throwaway. After a two-yard run on third-down, New York punted back to New England.

The rookie Joneses continued to standout on special teams, as Marcus Jones returned the punt 32 yards to set New England up at the New York 27-yard line. The Patriots could not take advantage of the field possession after a quick three-and-out. Nick Folk nailed a 45-yard field goal to extend their lead. [Patriots 19 : 10 Jets]

On the Jets’ first play from scrimmage, Matthew Judon brought the pressure on Wilson outside on the pocket forcing an errant throw that Devin McCourty hauled in for an interception.

Starting again with strong field position at the New York 40-yard line following the turnover, New England failed to capitalize on the second straight drive. A second-down sack and fumble – which New England recovered – set up a third-and-long which resulted in a punt. Bailey’s punt appeared to be down inside the five-yard line, but DaMarcus Mitchell’s momentum carried him into the end zone for a touchback.

Fourth quarter

Down nine beginning the fourth quarter, Wilson found Garrett Wilson for an eight-yard gain before Michael Carter broke off an 11-yard gain. Three plays later on third-down, Wilson was forced out to his right and lofted a pass that was intercepted again by Devin McCourty.

The Jets started their next drive with a 13-yard completion to Denzel Mims followed by a 27-yard throw to Uzomah. The promising drive hit a wall after three straight incompletions. On a fourth-down, Josh Uche jumped offside setting up a fourth-and-five. Wilson’s pass downfield to Conklin fell incomplete.

New England’s offense continued to be stuck in neutral. Jones was sacked on second-down and a screen to Stevenson on third-down was stopped short of the sticks. Bailey punted back to New York with just over seven minutes remaining.

A false start and then Lawerence Guy sack set the Jets up with a third-and-21 down at the New York 10-yard line. Wilson’s check down to Conklin was then followed by a punt.

The Patriots worked Rhamondre Stevenson to kill the clock as the back handled five straight carries for 17 yards. After one first-down New England punted back to New York.

Down at their own 12-yard line, Wilson hit Mims for a 63-yard catch and run to start the Jets drive. Wilson then found Jeff Smith for a 23-yard gain before getting sacked by Josh Uche. Following the two-minute warning, Wilson hit Conklin in the end zone for a nine-yard score. [Patriots 22 : 17 Jets]
