There was a report he will be ready to face Lions

The Las Vegas Raiders still don’t know if starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be ready to play next Monday night at the Detroit Lions, coach Josh McDaniels said Monday morning.

McDaniels said at his press briefing that he is “hoping” Garoppolo will be ready to face the Lions, but there is no “clarification yet.”

ESPN reported over the weekend that Garoppolo is expected to be able to play against the Lions. He missed the Raiders’ 30-12 loss at the Chicago Bears on Sunday with a back injury that kept him out of the second half of the Raiders’ 21-17 Week 6 home win over the New England Patriots. Garoppolo was on the sidelines in Chicago.

If Garoppolo ends up not playing at the Lions (his chances are helped that there is an extra day of preparation time), it would likely be rookie Aidan O’Connell facing the Lions. Backup Brian Hoyer was dreadful at the Bears and has lost 13 straight starts dating back to 2016.

O’Connell, who played for Garoppolo in a Week 4 loss at the Los Angeles Chargers, replaced Hoyer late at Chicago.
