Free-agent addition asked for release

The Las Vegas Raiders are making a bye week subtraction from their roster by releasing veteran wide receiver Willie Snead, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter reported on Tuesday that Snead requested his release from the team just seven games after signing as a free agent this offseason.

Snead had just three catches for 32 yards as a Raider, his last catch was in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears. In the end, Snead had one catch in three games with Las Vegas. The 29 year old signed a one-year, $1.127 million deal with the Raiders in free agency, including $987,500 in guaranteed money. John Brown was signed around the same time but was cut before the season.

On one hand, the Raiders swung and missed with their veteran additions at the position. But young receivers Hunter Renfrow, Henry Ruggs III and Bryan Edwards have all stepped up and taken most of the reps at the position for the varied Las Vegas offense attack that also relies on tight ends and running backs in the receiving game.

In addition to Renfrow, Ruggs and Edwards, Zay Jones is the other receiver currently on the Raiders’ roster. They could look to add a player from another practice squad, a trade or a street free agent. They could also promote Dillon Stoner or DJ Turner from the practice squad.
