Recapping the fantasy impact of Cowboys 41-35 win against Seahawks

Thursday night’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks is the type of game fantasy managers dream. Dallas’ 41-35 win was a high-scoring affair that didn’t have a single punt between both teams. Dallas and Seattle combined for over 800 yards of offense.

For Seattle, DK Metcalf and Geno Smith exploded with big games against the Cowboys. In short, you are beyond ecstatic if you were fortunate to have shares of either of these offenses’ playmakers. In a crucial week that may decide fantasy fates, getting off to a hot start to begin week 13 is a relief, if only temporary.

Here is your fantasy recap of Thursday’s game.

QB – Dak Prescott, 34 Yahoo fantasy points

Following an embarrassing Week 5 loss in primetime to the San Francisco 49ers, Dak Prescott has risen from the fantasy ashes to become possibly an NFL league MVP winner. Prescott’s stark change in trajectory is a far cry from a quarterback who finished no higher than QB17 over his first five games of the season, according to Sleeper. Since then, Prescott has finished below QB3 just once since Week 6.

Prescott’s night against Seattle was truly spectacular when you dive deeper into the numbers. Prescott completed 29 of 41 pass attempts for 299 yards and a CPOE of +5.4%. Prescott would have had a more significant dent on the fantasy stat sheet without two drops on well-thrown passes in the end zone.

Currently, Prescott leads the NFL with 26 passing touchdowns. For further context, Prescott has totaled 23 touchdowns with just two interceptions over his last six games. Prescott is on a blistering pace with no signs of stopping anytime soon. Prescott has remaining games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and Detroit Lions that could be high-scoring affairs, with each team having playoff hopes on the line. Prescott, the former NFL Rookie of the Year, is shaping up to be a league winner.

RB – Tony Pollard, 16 Yahoo fantasy points

Don’t look now, but Pollard has begun to find consistency as a fantasy running back. No, Pollard isn’t meeting the expectations set for him when the Cowboys released Ezekiel Elliott, and was a consensus first-round pick in fantasy football. Still, Pollard has scored 15 or more fantasy points in three consecutive weeks, even though Pollard’s production is a result of finding the end zone in each of his last three games. That said, he will continue to get the most running back carries once the Cowboys enter the red zone.

Against Seattle, Pollard dominated the running back usage for the Cowboys, taking on 80% of the running back carries, with 20 of them and only five for his backup Rico Dowdle. Pollard also had a modest showing on the receiving side of things, catching three passes for 15 yards. Pollard would have had a more significant impact on the fantasy scoreboard had he not dropped a pass that hit him in the face mask while he was in the end zone. Overall, a decent game from Pollard.

WR – CeeDee Lamb, 32 Yahoo fantasy points

If you’re in a full PPR format, rejoice. CeeDee Lamb is carrying fantasy team managers everywhere. Lamb torched the Seattle Seahawks defense for 116 yards, his seventh 100-yard game this season. Once again, Lamb demonstrated that he can be successful in any given formation and create a mismatch against opposing defenses.

The Seahawks played primarily in zone coverage against Lamb and the Cowboys, and Lamb was unaffected. Lamb routinely found the soft area in the zone, while Prescott peppered Lamb with targets. Dak Prescott targeted Lamb 17 times, with 12 completed. Lamb had a whopping 41% target share to pace the Cowboys’ passing attack. Lamb also had an additional 30 yards rushing.

Just like Pollard’s consistency in finding the end zone, Lamb is on the same wavelength. Lamb scored against Seattle on a leaping grab for his seventh touchdown on the season and his sixth in as many week games dating back to Week 8. With another dominating performance, Lamb is now second in the NFL in receiving yards and receptions and is on pace for 127 receptions and 1,674 yards.

TE – Jake Ferguson, 19 Yahoo fantasy points

Beyond the box score and the fantasy stat sheet, Jake Ferguson was a man-possessed Thursday night. Ferguson fought for every inch against the Seahawks, engaging the Seattle defense with some trash talk. Ferguson’s involvement had dwindled over the past few games, but this week, he had a much more prominent role in the offense. Ferguson caught six of his eight targets for 77 yards. After the catch Ferguson is a deceptive athlete, making plays after hauling in a pass. The highlight of Ferguson’s evening was making the game-winning touchdown catch as he stared down Seahawks safety Jamal Adams. Ferguson dominated the snap counts from the tight end position with 74% of the snaps and outpaced Michael Gallup and Jalen Tolbert.

DEF/ST – minus 1 Yahoo fantasy point

The Dallas defense was a fantasy bust against the Seahawks. Though they did make timely plays on fourth down and DaRon Bland recorded another interception this season to help Dallas win the contest, it was arguably their worst performance of the season. Allowing 35 points, which included several explosive plays, to an offense that had struggled to score a touchdown in their last seven quarters entering Thursday’s game is disappointing.

Dallas allowed Seattle to convert nine of their fourteen third-down conversions and sustain drives. The Cowboys’ defense only registered a single sack against Geno Smith, who had the fifth-most yards lost to sacks. Dallas allowed over 400 yards of offense. The Dallas defense’s penalties also impacted the game.
