A key weapon on the Arizona Cardinals defense will now likely miss the remainder of the season due to injury.

J.J. Watt, who suffered a shoulder injury that he ultimately played through during the second quarter of the Cardinals’ 31-5 win over Watt’s former team, the Houston Texans, will have season-ending surgery to repair the injured shoulder, according to multiple reports.

Despite being 32, and having dealt with many serious injuries over the course of his career, Watt was extremely effective for Arizona in his role, being close to the NFL lead in both pass rush win rate and run stop win rate for defensive tackles.

The 7-0 Cardinals will certainly miss Watt, especially in tonight’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers, in which the Cardinals will need consistent pressure against Aaron Rodgers to keep the Green Bay offense in check.

Despite him being on a rival team, I hope this isn’t the end of J.J. Watt’s career. You’d hate to see a Hall-of-Fame career like his end in injury.
