The Dolphins say they have their franchise signal caller.
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is enjoying his relatively quiet offseason, hosting charity events and playing lots of golf. However, that hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from doing what it does best—spreading rumors.
Namely, that the Miami Dolphins are thinking of drafting a quarterback in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft. With Tagovailoa’s contract set to expire next year, many analysts have predicted the Dolphins will move on from the 5th-year signal caller, in lieu of making him one of the NFL’s highest paid quarterbacks.
However, today, those rumors were squashed.
ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported that the Dolphins are “100% committed” to Tagovailoa, and see him as the quarterback of the future.
Per @JeffDarlington, Miami is 100% committed to Tua being their franchise QB:
“This is no longer a matter of whether they’re going to pay him or not. They’re moving forward with Tua. Tua Tagovailoa, as far as Chris Grier is concerned, is the future QB of the Miami Dolphins.” pic.twitter.com/d67WntkN3x

To many, this comes as a no brainer. Tagovailoa is coming off a career year, in which he not only started all 17 regular season games (a first), but also tossed for 4,624 yards, 29 touchdowns, and posted a passer rating of 101.1. A stellar year, by all accounts. Former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III seems to agree, and says that Dolphins should pay Tagovailoa as soon as possible.
Robert Griffin III on Tua Tagovailoa: “[Tua] led the league in passing yards last year. He’s been a top 5 QB for the last two years… this guy’s a bonafide top 5 QB in the NFL, they need to go ahead and pay him.” (@ESPNNFL) #FinsUp pic.twitter.com/3FPjXT6ioQ

It’s worth noting that Tagovailoa says he’s also committed to staying in Miami, and says the city “feels like home”. So to all the naysayers, the mock drafters, the analysts, sorry to burst your bubble. Tua Tagovailoa is staying right here.
Do you think there’s any chance the Dolphins don’t extend Tua and draft a quarterback in the first round? Let us know down below!
